Newcomers storm podium at the US Open Slopestyle. Vernon BC's own TJ Schiller takes gold. Schiller, recent coverboy of SBC SKIER Magazine, (Volume 3, Issue 2) stepped up the progression level in slopestyle by delivering technical tricks with smooth style and control.
Starting his run with a 270 tail-press disaster over Stairsky and Huck, TJ followed that up with a big cork 5 on the first jump, a 270 disaster on Sally Alley, and a huge fakie 900 on the second to last hit. Cruising into the final jump of the course known as the Super Dupper Jibber Jumper, TJ wound up a smooth 1080 to take over first place; Did he ever imagine himself at the top of the U.S. Freeskiing Open podium? Maybe one day,?said Schiller, but definitely not today.?Check out TJ in Theory-3 media FOCUS as well as PFP Reality. Getting credit where it is due!
Second Place and the only established name on the podium was Henrik Winstedt, a man who in many people's opinion was overdue for a medal despite the fact that he barely spends any time in the park, Henrick sick natural talent allowed him to stomp a number of 270s on and 450s off the rails, finishing with a fakie corked 7 followed by a fakie corked 10. The impressive display was marred only by a slight bobble on the landing, which probably dropped him into second. “Every year someone comes to this event and distinguishes themselves,?said Henrik. “This year it was TJ.?
Speaking of newcomers, who is Tanner Rainville? Rainville began his run with an enormous disaster to fakie over Stairsky and Huck, the course’s opening double-set feature. He followed that up with a cork 5 mute before fakie 270ing onto and 450ing off Sally Alley. On the bottom jumps he threw a fakie cork 7 to fakie cork 9, enough to plant him in third place.
