In towns where many good skiers reside, there is bound to be a competition to see who can get down the mountain the fastest. In Rossland it is called “The Cliff Dive”. This year is the 5th anniversary of this timed event and has competitors race down the face of Red Mountain. The top portion of the race begins in a mogul field down “The Cliff” run. The bottom portion spits out the racers into a Super G course. It is a leg burner!

This event has four categories; men’s and women’s, ski or snowboard. Last year there were two telemarkers in the event; maybe there will be an official category for them this year? You can register anytime between now and 9 am race day, Saturday February 21, at Red Mountain. The cost is a mere 10 dollars and it includes pizza and a beer afterward. There is always good swag to be had. (Sorry, you have to be 19 years or older to enter) Helmets are mandatory.
