Day two at Fernie brought us over to the Fish Bowl; we were perched across on top of Snake ridge looking at the Cement Mixer. This terrain definitely passes the Big Mountain gnar test. The venue is about an 1800 foot face that has lots of technical lines and exposure. The light was variable, but the competitors threw down. Highlights included Alex 'the Blazer' Blais (His run is Last in the Video -its mislabled) taking first on the day with a smooth, clean line that flowed better than anyone else on the day.

Fernie Day 2.wmv The cement mixer chutes definitely separated the cream from the field. Most of the new snow was swept off of the venue early and competitors were dealing with technical skiing conditions. Tobias Lee blew our minds with a massive double and the 2 Treadways both managed to scare everyone with a mammoth air to sketch. Scholarship finalist Dom Melanson got the smoothest line of the day and our good friend the Slicer came in right behind. Chris Rubens managed to pull off his standard 360 from the top of the course and the Rubberman showed us yet again how he loves the bush.
The Ladies ran first and we saw Saw some smooth lines through the Gnar - or as the Captain would say - thru the now. Lake Comp winner Janina Kuzman slayed the venue with a fast run with some good technical features and Sara Oakden maintained her spot on top by shredding a steep icy couloir that none of the other ladies hit.
Following the days event everyone cruised down the the Central in Town to watch Bulletins from a Colder Planet and Biglines DVD of this years comp footy.
All in all we saw some mindblowing skiing on a technical big mountain venue. What can I say, the atmosphere is fun and the vibe is good. I can't wait to see what gets laid down today.
