Dave Crichton has been a steady presence on the scene newschool skiing for a few years now. He has undergone the trial and tribulations of all high level athletes including blowing away competition at Superpipe and Slopestyle comps to a bruised knee, a broken back and the rigorous rehab to get back on top. Dave first blew our minds when we saw him in Whistler 3 years ago. The guy goes “HUGE” and has an artistically smooth style. Dave won the world World Superpipes last year and you can bet that he will leave a lasting impression on the sport.

Hows the season been for you?
Relaxing, been at home waiting to heal my neck. So just been watching movies, reading books, cooking, and playing with my family’s new puppy, Winston. Lately, though been able to ski the flats, so been enjoying carving and just being out on the hill.
What are your plans for the summer and the rest of the season?
For the next month or so I’ll be strengthening my neck, and slowly getting back into skiing. Plan on getting some shooting in before summer, and then coaching at Momentum.
How hard is it when you get sidelined with injuries – mentally and physically – and how to you work through it and maximize your rehab?
. This particular It’s always a learning experience and no matter what you come out stronger–mentallyinjury (fractured C7 dorsal) doesn’t require much physical rehab. Mainly takes time and patience, although there are some strengthening exercises, like putting your hand on your head and resisting it.
You’ve been at the top time after time- how do you prepare yourself to win – how do you get ready to put together the perfect run?
Learn the best tricks you can, get them down on their own and then put them together. If you’re serious about doing well in the comp don’t try and throw tricks that you don’t have that’ll just be a stressful mess all through practice. When you’re landing your tricks you’ll be having more fun and you’ll always do better when you’re enjoying yourself.
Skiing seems to be coming more and more an elite sport. What do you think the industry needs to do to encourage kids to get out to the hills and ski. What does the media need to do to get more people stoked on skiing?
Mountains need to provide good terrain parks. The media needs to keep focused on twin tips, and if events like the Orage Masters could get big television coverage that’d be great to show the ‘none competitive’ side of the sport we all enjoy.
Travel is a huge part of a pro skiers lifestyle – what are some of the best trips and locations that you’ve had?
Japan has been the most unique and enjoyed trip I’ve taken.
Have you been focusing on shooting and filming more as your career progresses, or do the comps and filming segments go hand in hand?
Been keeping pretty much the same balance between the two; although, I am not planning on competing less it seems natural that at a certain point you’ll start to focus more on filming.
What are some of the things that you’re most stoked about accomplishing so far?
Always learning new tricks each season.
Thanks Dave – Last words?
They’re for suckaz.
