While most of us are enjoying hot days in the sun, and hanging out at the beach. The diehard riders have headed south.. way south, to continue riding biglines! I am at Mt. Ruapehu in the center of New Zealand's North Island, for my second Kiwi Winter....
Turoa and Whakapapa have the top two vertical drops in Australasia, and combined create the southern hemisphere’s largest ski area by a wide margin.
This is my second season at Mt. Ruapehu and I am as excited as ever. The varied terrain here is enough to keep any skier entertained for weeks. With exciting cliff band areas, natural half-pipes, gullies, chutes, and wide-open glaciers spread across the entire mountain, it is like a big playground.
The winter here is just getting off the ground, and it is looking to be another stellar season, with more snow already than last years record-breaking season.
Keep an eye out for the 1st annual Whakapapa Extreme Competition (more details to come!!)
