Mt. Ruapehu is an active volcano in the center of the North Island of New Zealand. It is located in a Dual World Heritage site and is also New Zealand’s First National Park. Mt. Ruapehu is one of three volcanoes that make up the Tongariro National Park. This mountain is home to three ski areas; the larger commercial ski areas Turoa and Whakapapa, and the tiny club field Tukino.

Turoa and Whakapapa have the top two vertical drops in Australasia, and combined create the southern hemisphere’s largest ski area by a wide margin.
This is my second season at Mt. Ruapehu and I am as excited as ever. The varied terrain here is enough to keep any skier entertained for weeks. With exciting cliff band areas, natural half-pipes, gullies, chutes, and wide-open glaciers spread across the entire mountain, it is like a big playground.

The winter here is just getting off the ground, and it is looking to be another stellar season, with more snow already than last years record-breaking season.
