Dave Treadway is emerging as an impressive big mountain skier who is carving an eye-catching path through the obstacles in front of him. He marks with the top dogs in whatever territory he shows up at and if he comes to your neck of the woods, he may just scare the hell out of you.

Ask anybody about what they come away with after sharing time with Dave and his passion for skiing and his faith in Jesus Christ will rank among the most memorable. The Christian guy who likes his bible is succeeding where many others haven’t in combining the ski bum lifestyle and the disciplines cultivated from the Christian book. That’s no easy task when you consider that freeskiing is inherently hedonistic and Christianity calls it’s followers to be servants. But Dave finds the balance by using what he is best at to encourage grommets to follow more than just their immediate desires. He is becoming, if you will, the extreme Christian poster boy.

All the good-guy stuff aside, there’s little argument that Dave is a badass skier; and people are taking notice. It’s no fluke that Oakely, Capital skis, Giro, Dakine, Dalbello, Scott, Swany, Base Energy Drink, and Eternal Riders all want a piece of the exposure drummed up from Dave’s wake. This year, a fourth place finish at Red Mountain has been supported with a Skiing mag cover, a 2 page spread in Powder’s Shooting Gallery, full pages in Skier and Sweden’s AKA Skidor magazine and several other smaller print appearances. He is more and more sought after by the best photographers in the game who need elite skiers to stomp big airs and clean lines without incident.

Having seasoned in Fernie, Chamonix and now 2 years in Whistler since high school, the 21 year old has invested his heart, soul, mind and strength into becoming the best big mountain skier possible. Case in point. Fernie, February 11th, 2006, 4:30pm. Long after the cameras have been put away, Dave puts a new line down that causes seasoned locals to turn away in fear for the consequences. A few days later he does the same thing in Golden en route to trip at Mica Heli Skiing.

Starting from humble roots in Longbow Lake Ontario, Dave grew up sessioning the 2 t-bars that access the 400 ft vertical of Mt. Evergreen. Today he calls Whistler home in the winters but spends much of his time chasing storms.

No story about Dave can be complete without mentioning his family. His parents have served as missionaries around the world and recently starred in ‘Pioneers,’ a History channel reality show. They raised Dave as a loved but unspoiled youth and they taught him at an early age the core values that he represents now. The 3rd of 3 brothers, Dave has always been forced to find identity among 2 of the sport’s rowdiest characters, Dan and Daryl. Emulating Dan’s work ethic and Daryl’s enjoyment of the sport Dave’s bros have taught him how to succeed and have fun at the same time, all while blaring Metallica as loud as possible.

The future for Dave seems bright as long as he stays alive and doesn’t lose his focus on the things that got him this far. Increased editorial coverage and filming segments should see him rise among the most well-known in the game, which should allow for bigger and better trips. He’s been dreaming about what mark he would make as a pro-skier since he was pinning pictures of Seth Morrison, Trevor Peterson and his brother on his bedroom wall. The process has now come full circle as Dave hopes his skiing can stand for something to the ones that put his picture up.
