“This is a very exciting few weeks in racing at Panorama,” said Panorama’s On-Mountain Racing Coordinator, Nancy Brush. “It’s big for these young athletes. This is where it all begins,” she added.

The B.C. High School Ski & Snowboard Provincial Championships will see 200 student athletes from across the province compete in events like Slalom and Giant Slalom from February 26th to February 28th. This is the third time this event has been held at Panorama and hosted by the local David Thompson Secondary School & the Windermere Valley Ski Club (WVSC)

The K2 Provincial Championships, also hosted by the WVSC will be held from March 1st through March 5th. 150 athletes, who are 13 & 14-years-old, are competing for a chance to go to the nationals in Quebec later in the month of March. They will race in Super G (March 2nd), Giant Slalom (March 3rd), the Skills event (March 4th) and Slalom (March 5th).

The CIBC Coupe Nor-Am Cup, the highest-level ski racing series, below the World Cup Circuit in North America, will be held from March 14th – March 17th. This is the Cup finals, and athletes from the Canada and the U.S.A., who have been competing in this series all winter, will be racing in Slalom and Giant Slalom each day. The overall series winner in each discipline at the end of the event here at Panorama is given a World Cup start next winter.

Volunteers are always needed to help out with racing events, and there are lots of perks for donating your time – lunches and race swag are provided, and there’s also a big wind up party. For every day worked as a Nor-Am volunteer you can earn a $25 credit off of your next year’s season pass, or you can get a pass to use another day for the rest of this season.
