What inspired the whole project?
We wanted to do one for years and since there was 10 women the KHMR patrol, we just said, hey, lets do it. We had a girls night to decide who wanted each month. Since the shoot, some of the girls are moving on to bigger and better futures


What are the goals behind the calender?
One is to just to accomplish and produce it. The second aim is to raise awareness for avalanche education and raise money for the Canadian Avalanche Association

So whats your favourite month?
Artistically I really like February. It’s because of the angle, looking down the skis and her back. For scenery and I like June is my favourite.

Whats it like finding so many good women to work with in a male dominated industry?
It’s awesome! They are all really strong women and its rare to have that many women in the field. A lot of women on staff also work in other male dominated industries. Hopefully we inspire women to get into it as well.

What has the feedback been so far?
Super positive! We’ve been getting it into shops and they are all really interested. I was a bit nervous being in a small town, but it was mostly women who have been buying it –saying ‘my husband would love this” Everyone appreciated how subtle and classy it was. When the men came up, they would be more shy, but once they realized it was tasteful they thought it was great.


Who did the photography?
I took them all, except for myself. It’s more of a hobby, but I do weddings and I’ve been hired to do other nudes of friends and have a good range of experience.

Is there and Emerging market for Scenic/artistic/mountain/nature nudes?
I don’t know if there is more of a market. Classic art used to emulate nudes, but nowadays you don’t see it as much and society is more taboo – our definition is kind of lost. I’m hoping that it will become more mainstream.


Has this been done before?
The Canadian national cross country ski team put out a classy calendar, and I heard that 5 years ago some girls in Rossland did a hockey one, but as far as I know we are the first patrols.


How did the boyfriends/husbands feel?
They were all pumped! One of the girls was a bit nervous and then we all got together and the women just did what they were comfortable with. All the boys were stoked. My beau thought it was pretty funny looking at the pics for the first time.


Why should more females get into patrolling and mountain safety?
Its fun, its an adventure, its hard work and rewarding. But its the things we are doing, helping people, making the mountain safe and learning more about the avalanche side of things. I think that women add a different aspect and its nice to have a good mix – just like any good work environment.

Whats the story behind Rose?
She rips!! She’ll be 60 this year and she is a grandma of 5. She keeps patrolling, does it because she loves skiing and she loves to work and she rips. Her thing is lets see how far we can go before we have to stop, and I try to keep up with her, and then by midseason we can rip the whole thing – she rides a bike like it too. She is for sure an inspiration to both the women and the men – she skis crazy lines and everyone struggles to keep up.


Whats Life like as a woman in a ski town?
Its great! I have a 3.5 yr oldand don’t venture out so much anymore, but the ratio is usually at least 5-1. You need other female companionship – its fun to ski with just girls, its nice to have women around.

Who Designed it?
McKenna Creative helped me with the layout and the design. They were great about listening to my direction, they did an absolutely great job. Tyler Keely did the cover and he’s out of Nelson.
