Sure, it might have pink on the cover—again—but inside it’s still the same bible for Canadian skiers it’s always been. The first issue of SBC SKIER magazine hits the shelves September 21. And this year is gonna be a great one.
As usual, our talented team of word-scribblers and picture-takers deliver the goods, including an interview with the most talked about gangsta in skiing, Tanner Hall. We’ve also got Deep, a collection of essays about the epic winter of 2006, and Ski Story, Juan Hitta’s report on the sickest, gnarliest and most “progressive” ski trip ever. We take a look back at the Year in Competition. And oh yeah, there’s maybe a Gear Guide in there somewhere.
Also, as usual, the photos rule, the writing inspires and the humour finds ways to offend even today’s most hard-boiled sensibilities. When asked what the vision is for the magazine this year, newly appointed managing editor Mike Berard had this to say, “We’ve really stepped up to the plate this year. Taken it to the next level. The bar has been raised and we just want to push the envelope as far as we can. Plus put the puck in the net.”
Associate editor Colin Field followed with this prescient comment: “It’s all about progression, so I’m not concerned if the envelope rips. Really, I’m reckless like that.”
So return those empties or raid your mom’s purse to scrounge up some change and get yourself a copy. This one’s gonna rip.
