What makes you passionate about skiing?
Mostly being outdoors. Being able to spend 6 or more hours just being outside and having fun with friends.
What are your aspirations in skiing?
To ski as long as I can without going broke. It takes a fair bit of money to ski everyday. Also I want to finish better overall on the World Tour than I have. Top ten overall would be nice.
Who are your current role models or who inspires you?
My brother Shane. I've been skiing with him since day one, and even though he's my little brother he watches out for me and pushes my limits. If he tells me to go for something I know I shouldn't be afraid to do. I know I can do it without hesitation.
What is your greatest personal achievement in the mountains? (Competition/Line/Trip)
I would have to say day one of the 2004 Crystal Mountain Freeride Competition. It was a small, SMALL, field (only nine girls), but I finished that day in first place against a few girls that I hold in high regards as skiers. I felt the competion was tough. I have never felt so good about my skiing as that day. Sometimes its not the big achievements that stand out as much as the small, personal ones.
How have you dedicated your life to the mountains and adventure?
Just being out there and enoying the day with everyone. I try to spend as much time outdoors as I can, be it biking or hiking or skiing. I am working on an oil patch right now to be able to fund a month long ski trip in March. If that isn't dedication I don't know what is.
Why have you dedicated your life to mountain pursuits?
I have a very short attention span. Even worse than most childern. Being outdoors and doing something (like skiing, biking, and hiking) keeps me occupied and not thinking about being bored.
What are some things the mountains have taught you that have proven valuable in the real world?
That there are people out there that care about you. On the mountain you make real friends. Those that feel the same as you. There is that saying "There are no friends on powder days", but that is a lie. You find even better friends on those days. The friends that are willing to show you their secret stash, that hidden spot. Friends that know you won't mind being woken up at 6:30am to get the best line. The friends that can wait 1 minute for you to unzip behind a rock to pee (granted those are usually girls that wait for you to pee). The friends that share their granola bar so you dont have to go inside the lodge to get something to eat. You find the friends that are like you.
How will the scholarship enable you to further pursue your skiing aspirations?
Free gear means that I don't have to buy it. If I save that money, then I can work less. The less I work, the more I ski. The more I ski the more I improve. And then hopefully I'll get that finish I want. And who wants to work anyways when you could be skiing? Oh ya, and I could use the money to buy a computer so I have something to download from my video camera onto.
How can you be a Biglines.com ambassador?
Well all my cars and helmets already have stickers. So that part is done and I travel alot in my car. My grandpa already checks the website each day looking for photos of my brother and me, so thats one person I can check off the list. Really I guess that something like this is a word of mouth thing, just letting anyone and everyone I meet on my travels know about Biglines.com.
Check out the other girls in the running for this year's Freeride Scholarship.
