Killer skiing isn't the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of quiet Islands in the south pacific, but on the sheep and snow covered hills of New Zealand, that's exactly what You'll find. Whether you're going for a week or the whole season, there's more than enough to keep you busy shredding.
Likely the most well known Ski areas in New Zealand are the ones around Wanaka and Queenstown. Near Wanaka are Treble Cone, cardrona and Snowpark. Cardrona and Snowpark both offer world class park facilities and cater almost exclusively to free style, while Treble cone offers arguably the best freeriding in the area. Wanaka and surrounds are also the host of most of the Major internationl events including the NZ Free Ski Open Big mountain and NZ Free Ski Open slopestyle and halfpipe Competitions.
On the north Island is the massive Volcano of Mt. Ruapehu, which is large enough to host 3 seperate ski hills, Whakapapa and Turoa. This is likely the best place in the world if you want to surf and ski in the same day, and the area has one of the most diverse and beautiful landscapes I've ever seen. The Volcano is a unique skiing experience and hosts a huge spring competition and party called the Marmot extreme ski competition.
Follow the links to read more about each and enjoy your journey. Just dont be suprised if you have to pay for Ketchup.
