Bar deck viewing, a short run in, 1 massive freezing puddle of slush and about 64 dressed up characters, was the recipe for the 2007 annual Slush Cup event.
This past Monday March 21st marked the end of the season for Sunshine Village ski resort and the annual Slush Cup event. The Slush Cup as been an infamous end of season wrap festival at Sunshine Village since the eighties and recently it has been declared as one of the “Top 3 Spring Parties in North America,” by Skiing Magazine. The party started early for many when a routine backpack searched was held at the boarding station for the gondola, may reverted to storing there beverages away for the day and others didn’t.
Daring adult contestants (male and female) bore costumes ranging from yeddies, sasquatchs, superwomen etc... With the encouragement from the announcer, a massive on looking crowd and a wacky panel of judges the riders attempted to cross the massive slush puddle. The victorious males whom where able to skim across prevailed to show that you needed more than just beer and a costume but you also needed a skiing background. The 4 males who where lucky enough not to have to plunge into the freezing water all have had a excessive background in skiing. The winners where well compensated for there insanity with prizes from Sunshine’s sponsors such as cell phones, snowboards, $100 dollars and a one received a mystery bag of ideal goodies.
This years slush cup marked ultra high attendance and many onlookers dressed in street clothing traveled for the day to soak up the rays and enjoy the sounds of BC/DC rocking out. There is no wonder why this slushy situation has been named one of the top three parties in North America.
