The 07/08 winter season sees the return of d3o™ as a dominant force in the ski and snowboard market with the continuation of successful product launches from 06/07, as well as the addition of new product ranges including the 1st ever snowboard specific apparel and headwear with innovators in the industry Sessions and Quiksilver. d3o™ is a material containing intelligent molecules which flow freely under normal conditions making the material soft andflexible but lock together on shock to absorb any impact energy. Basically this means you can have protection that works when you need it to, but remains practically invisible in your garment when you’re doing your thing, allowing you to perform to your optimum.
Launched at winter ISPO 2007, and winner of the prestigious ISPO Boardsports award the Quiksilver Bartik beanie contains d3o™ head components placed within the lining of the headwear. Although not giving the full protection of a helmet, the Bartik offers a compromise for boarders who do not want to wear a helmet but still want some level of protection. The hat will be in retail for £50 from September 2007 in Europe & Japan.
Sessions have also won an award for the inclusion of d3o™ in their range this season; the US grassroots snowboard brand won the Snowpress innovation award for the d3o™ diffusion crew and pant. This is the first use of d3o™ in a base layer garment on the market and contains the material incorporated into high impact areas such as the knees and elbows to offer discrete protection with no infringement on boarder style or control on the slopes. The crew and pant will be available in retail from September 2007 in shops across the whole world, with an RRP of $35 for the top and $50 for the pants.
UK based specialist beanie brand Ignite are also using d3o™ in some of their beanies for the 07/08 winter season, challenging the company’s strap line that beanie making is not rocket science! d3o™ will be added to some of the company’s current styles to combine both excellent shock absorption and cool, cutting edge style.
In addition to the new lines that can be see with d3o™ this season, you can also get your hands on products first launched in the 06/07 winter season. Ski wear experts Schoeffel launched an improved Protector jacket and pants at Winter ISPO 2007 as the highlight of their technical 07/08 ski collection, and the new combination will be found across European & UK stores this winter.
Kjus are continuing the Kjus d3o™ Impact Vest creating the optimum synergy between protection and elegance without compromising quality, with the model available in black for both
men and women.
Reusch are also following on with the highly practical snowboard glove with d3o™ protection placed in the palms to give protection from any crashes on the slopes.
Established in 2001 by CEO Richard Palmer, d3o™ Lab invented and manufactures revolutionary d3o™ technology allowing flexible impact protection. d3o™ is a patented, shock absorbing material with ‘Intelligent Molecules’ which flow with you as you move but upon shock lock together to absorb the impact energy. d3o™ opens up unlimited design possibilities for protective gear enabling the athletes and law enforcement and tactical professionals to maintain control at a high level without compromising freedom of movement whilst also knowing they have superior protection if needed. d3o™ lab have a loyal and growing team of ‘d3o™ diamonds’ from Olympic winning professionals such as UK cyclist Craig McClean and 4 times Everest climber Kenton Cool, to enthusiastic amateurs who provide in-house designers with the knowledge to make the ultimate garments for their discipline. The community is also home to a growing number of athletes who are united by a passion for their sport and d3o™.
