Thanksgiving in Canada is the first weekend in October. What do we have to give thanks for?? How about POW and Turkey just to name a few obvious ones! HAHAH …... Here is a short video of skiing Pow in the beginning of October on the Duffy Lake road outside of Pemberton, BC.
Do you like POW with your Turkey?
POW TURKEY
Fall is in the air, all of the new ski flicks are out, the nights are getting cooler and the snow is falling on the high peaks. We are all staring to get the itch and the ski bug. Hey remember that one day last year? What will this season be like? Will climate change bring more intense storms or rain?
Well in the Coast Mountains of BC we have had a week straight of rain and cooler than normal temps…which means the snow has been falling on the high peaks. Luckily last season was one of the best in years, many of the glaciers are advancing not receding and there are many more patches of snow that stuck around all summer.
So we decided to trade in the valley rain for some alpine snow! Awe carried our skis on the approach to the snow line and then to the glaciers in the alpine.
The crevasses are there and the early season conditions means that the yawners could be just out of sight, ready to catch a sleepy skier. The coverage can look good from far but can be far from good unless it is on top of summer snow patches and glaciers!
Go out and enjoy this October that we have all dreamed about. Have fun!
It’s not extreme or big mountain, but considering the coverage and the date…well, it’s almost thanksgiving in Canada, and time to give thanks… for some POW TURNS….
