Adventure Film Works' Weather We Change has been accepted as a finalist in the 2008 Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival. The event, which is sponsored by Patagonia and hosted by the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL), is the largest environmental film festival on the West Coast. It is rare for a skiing action film to be recognized outside of its genre, but that is exactly what the Adventure Film Works crew set out to do. Filmmaker Duane Kubischta was especially honored with this festival inclusion, "I am so excited that the environmental merit of the film is being recognized and I can't wait to be a part of this motivating festival."

The Wild & Scenic Festival has had a long history motivating people around environmental issues. Drawing on the success 23 years ago when a group of community members organized to protect their local watershed and formed the SYRCL. That empowerment had lead to today's film festival vision: to use film to inspire activism on behalf of the environment. "Viewers will see both local and global issues being raised in the films" said festival tour manager Susie Sutphin, "Tour venues are hosted by local environmental groups giving inspired film goers an immediate way to action." The festival even provides ways to get involved right away, from petitions to informational seminars to volunteer opportunities. "The environment is part of every aspect of our lines," Kubischta added, "so it's great if we can learn something while watching great skiing and connect with people who will take some real action to help save the snow we love so much." The festival will be held in the quaint town of Nevada City, CA from January 11th to 13th 2008 and will tour around the country throughout the year.

This film festival honor is one of several that Weather We Change has received in recent months. The film was selected into the Taos Mountain Film Festival, the Kendal Mountain Film Festival, and the Mt Baker Film Festival. A shorter version of the film was included in the Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival, which premiered in Boise on Nov 16th and will tour the western states this winter. The film was also mentioned in Outside Magazine's November issue and SKI magazine in December in an article about Squaw Valley and Adventure Film Works. But the greatest honor, says Kubischta, "Is that a school teacher in Colorado is showing the film to her 7 th grade class. That's just cool!"

Weather We Change is the third major release from Adventure Film Works, whose 2006 movie Hustle & Snow received acclaim at the Banff Mountain Film Festival. Weather We Change is a skiing adventure documentary that follows athletes who have taken a pledge to follow in the footsteps of pro skier Alison Gannett in search of a greener ski bum lifestyle. Mother Nature serves up a healthy dose of reality with a bleak early season, but these snow soldiers eventually find the deep powder that recharges their fight to save the snow. Stunning footage of the Swiss Alps, the best of the West Coast, and an educational journey come together in an unforgettable film that shows how global warming is an issue that skiers cannot afford to ignore. DVDs of Weather We Change are available for order at Adventure Film Works' website, www.adventurefilmworks.com and are distributed to nationwide retail stores through VAS Entertainment.

Adventure Film Works is proud to be a member of 1% for the Planet. One percent of net revenue from Weather We Change will be donated to environmental organizations. Additionally, the CO2 footprint formed in the making of Weather We Change was offset through Bonneville Environmental Foundation's Ski Green program. Sponsors for this project include Spyder, Black Diamond, Osprey, Carrera, FitterFirst, Clif Bar and PanOptx.
