Lake Tahoe, CA & NV (Dec. 7, 2007) - A powerful winter storm has covered the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts and the surrounding lake region with snowfall surpassing two feet in some locations, enhancing resort conditions heading into the holidays. With snowfall continuing today through Saturday and sunshine forecasted from Sunday on, winter sports enthusiasts can expect to enjoy "blue bird" powder conditions that make Tahoe legendary.

"A winter storm has led to heavy snowfall in the last 24-hours across the Lake Tahoe area, with snowfall totals up to two feet in certain areas. Lighter snowfall is forecast to continue through Saturday bringing the potential for additional snow accumulations. Winter storms with high amounts of snowfall in a short time frame are very typical for the Lake Tahoe area at this time of year," noted Brian Brong, Meteorologist for the National Weather Service, Reno, NV.

The Lake Tahoe area typically has better weather conditions than any resort area in the U.S., with over 400 inches of annual snowfall combined with over 300 days of sunshine at slightly more comfortable winter temperatures. Perched atop the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Lake Tahoe region is in a maritime weather system controlled by the Pacific Ocean. Lake Tahoe experiences moisture-rich, super sized storms that yield excessive amounts of snowfall, often followed by clear skies. The stronger the storm system, typically the better chance of blue skies following due to high amounts of sinking air behind a storm system, which presents a dream scenario for skiers and snowboarders.
