In all likelihood, the recent holiday bonanza probably seems like a relatively distant yet pleasant memory. In between epic turns at Mount Washington Alpine Resort, where the snow quality from the last couple of weeks was rumoured to be the best ever, most individuals partook in the time-honoured traditions of good cheer, singing, and gift exchanges. In typical killjoy fashion, one more tradition will re-introduce itself over the coming weeks- the infamous opening of the post-Christmas credit card statement!

The perfect remedy for the post-holiday spending blues emerges from deep within the mountains next week like a Sasquatch out of long winter slumber. The Kokanee Winter Festival keeps the spirit of giving alive with midweek half-price full day lift tickets at Mount Washington from Monday, January 7th to Friday, January 11th.

"The timing for half-price tickets is perfect," explains Marketing Director Karen Bonell. "People are looking for discounts at this time of year. The Kokanee Winter Festival serves up half-price midweek lift tickets and nordic trail passes coupled with a snowbase of nearly three metres!"

It would be hard to find someone disgruntled with half-price lift tickets in a winter that has delivered plentiful snow and cool, crisp temperatures to the mountains of Vancouver Island. Over 5 metres of fluffy white snow have blanketed Mount Washington since the end of November and forecasts over the next couple of weeks are looking ideal for skiing.

"The temperatures this winter have been at least two to three degrees colder than the average winter temperatures of the past five years," says Resort spokesperson Brent Curtain. "The La Nina effect definitely appears to be shaping our weather this season. I hope the snowboarding Sasquatch has a thick coat of fur ready for next week!"

The Sasquatch will be out on the slopes from Monday to Friday celebrating the Kokanee Winter Festival. If you're lucky enough to see the beast, you may be on the receiving end of some Kokanee swag and prizes!

The festivities hit overdrive on Friday, January 11th with the Kokanee Day for Dudes, which features the second annual Mount Washington Glacier Girl Search during après. Girls 21 and older from across Vancouver Island are encouraged to take part in the pageant, which tests participant's abilities to keep cases of Kokanee away from the thieving Sasq! Winners become part of the Mount Washington Kokanee Krew for winter 2008. Registration information for all Kokanee events next week can be found at the Mount Washington website.
