Red Junior Freeski Comp Qualifier

Links Line off of the Motherlode chair was the qualifying venue and the youngest competitor, at the rubbery age of 7 kicked off the day and from there everything ran smoothly. Split up into 3 age division, 7-11, 12-15 and 16-18, in both boys and girls, the skiing got progressively faster and the hits bigger as the day wore on and the older competitors stepped up to the gate. Some of the skiers in the 15 and 18 year old age groups make even the adult open skiers look soft. The juniors are all about the newschool and plenty of groms were spinning off drops and tricking their runs.

The power died mid-way through the day forcing any competitors at the top of the venue to stand there in the cold until their run for fear of not making it back up, but plenty of laughter and joking kept the kids warm and stoked.

Stay tuned for the Finals on Sunday when the judges will open up the entire venue with more terrain and bigger hits. “The kids really skied within their abilities and showed to us that they can make good decisions and ski bigger terrain, so that’s what we’ll give them,” commented judge Jeff Holden.

A fantastic start to the comp here at Red with good snow for the finals tomorrow and the big guns in the form of the seniors coming next week.
