With two action-filled days of qualifying rounds now finished, the best Junior, Master, and Adult category competitors are officially locked onto the roster and ready to dive in for Day One of the 17th Annual Subaru U.S. Extreme Freeskiing Championships.

An impressive turnout for the Juniors field saw a whopping 62 boys and 18 girls take turns showing that they are pushing the line as the next generation of big mountain chargers, as each took a shot at ÔSock It To MeÕ ridge on the first day, with a limited round continuing on to ÔHeadwallÕ, before final selections were made.

ÒItÕs just incredible to see the level these kids are skiing at,Ó said Jim Jack, Head Judge for the IFSA, ÒTo see so much great skiing going on with the younger crowd is amazing, you canÕt help but to anticipate a huge future ahead for our growing sport!Ó

For the Junior WomenÕs group, Ariana Stufano (Whistler, BC), Francesca Pavillard (Crested Butte, CO), and Alexandria Bachmeier (Crystal Mtn. WA) blazed through two clean runs to earn advancement. Junior Men moving on to Day One include Jesse Hoffman (Aspen, CO), North Parker (Sun Valley, ID) and Miles Honens (Squaw Valley, CA) sitting in the top three selected out of the final nine Junior Men.

The over-40 class proved you donÕt have to be extremely young to be extremely tough. The Masters enjoyed a hard-charging day on ÔHeadwallÕ qualifying venue, with Ashley Woody (Crested Butte, CO), Teri Siebert (Vail, CO), and Michelle Keener (Big Sky, MT) taking the top three slots for WomenÕs Masters. The Masters Men advancing are Marc Schellhorn (Crested Butte, CO), Scott Kennett (Telluride, CO), and Tim Naylor (Taos, NM).

Lobbying for a coveted slot in the ÔExtremesÕ main event, the Adult Men and WomenÕs groups unleashed some nail-biting performances, as judges were put to the difficult task of narrowing down the few that would advance on to tomorrowÕs Day One competition.

ÒThat was just a blast!Ó said Crystal-Lee Rose (Whistler,BC) top qualifier in the Adult WomenÕs group. ÒCrested Butte is an unbelievable mountain, I cannot get over how much terrain is here. ItÕs a total playground up there, I love it!Ó

Of the 10 women to advance from the original field of 23, LeeÕs top spot was followed by Jaclyn Paaso (Squaw Valley, CA) and Kate Cardamone (Aspen, CO).

Brayden Brassey (Park City, UT) snagged the first Adult MenÕs qualifying spot, with Tony Sieber (Vail, CO) and Kenjiro Matsuo (Tokyo, Japan) chasing him in second and third places. A total of 32 men out of 88 starters qualify for tomorrowÕs Day One Subaru U.S. Extreme Freeskiing Championships competition, going up against pre-qualified athletes for what will be the third stop on the US Freeskiing Tour, and the first on the 2008 World Tour.

MSI will broadcast a same-day video webcast starting at 7pm MST on the newly redesigned and recently launched www.usfreeskiing.com which features state of the art video and photo player technology. The daily uploads of video, photos, news and results of each dayÕs competition action will be available after each day concludes.
