A fresh layer of dry Colorado snow blanketed the ÔSpellboundÕ area of Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) which set the stage perfectly for todayÕs Juniors Finals, MasterÕs semi-finals, and the main event: day one for the Freeskiing World Tour (FWT) at the Subaru U.S. Extreme Freeskiing Championships (USEFC).

Be sure to tune in tomorrow at 7 for the live broadcast right here on Biglines.com of the finals and super finals.

The Junior division finalists kicked off the day with a fury, blowing away any notion that inexperience may equal a lack of grit. Crested Butte local Fracesca Pavillard led the Junior women, charging to a win with 82.9 total points, with Ariana Stufano of Whistler, BC taking second with 80.88 points, and Alexandria Bachmeier of Crystal Mountain, WA, in third with 79.68 points.

North Parker of Sun Valley, ID, held off fierce competition to take first place in the Junior men division, with 97.61 points. A tie for second place between Colston Beatson of Red Mountain, BC, and Miles Honens of Squaw Valley, CA, rounded out the podium.

Michelle Keener of Big Sky, MT, leads the MasterÕs women with 46 points going into tomorrowÕs finals. Following her is Nancy Elrod of Squaw Valley, CA, with 44.63 points. In third, Teri Siebert of Vail, CO, finished todayÕs round with 44.5 points.

MenÕs MasterÕs competitors saw Scott Kennett of Telluride, CO, take the lead with 55.25 points, Marc Schellhorn of Crested Butte, CO, sits in second with 48.5 points, and Tim Naylor of Telluride, NM, in third with 47.88 points.

Multiple World Tour title holder Jen Ashton of Whistler, BC, was the first out of the gate for the womenÕs World Tour division, laying down the law from the get-go. With a gaping plunge off of the ÔEast L.A.Õ walls, Ashton never looked back as she matched that hit with another huge leap off of ÔShipÕs ProwÕ confirming that she owned the day and sits at the top of the womenÕs heap with an untouchable 35.2 points. In second spot, Crested Butte local Carrie-Jo Chernoff is set up nicely going into the finals with a comfortable 32.1 points. Subaru U.S. Freeskiing Series leader Hannah Whitney of Alta, UT, sits in third with 32 points.

Former USEFC Junior division champion Dane Tudor of Red Mountain, BC, proved heÕs got what it takes to hang with the big boys by skiing clean and showcasing some outrageously smooth airs. Tudor sits in first for the World Tour menÕs division going into the Finals with 42 total points. Travis Wolfe of Telluride, CO, who flawlessly maneuvered the famed ÔDeuterÕs DoubleÕsÕ earned second position with 38.3 points. On his tails, Drew Stoecklein of Alta, UT, sits in third spot with 37.6 points.

SaturdayÕs finals will take the top selected Masters and World Tour womenÕs and menÕs competitors to a section of CBMR that rarely sees competition, the ÔBig HourglassÕ. This is only the fourth time in the USEFC 17-year history that this section of the mountain is able to be used in competition. Due to exceptional snowfall this year, this venue has recently been deemed skiable by CBMRÕs pro ski patrol.

MSI will broadcast a same-day video webcast starting at 7pm MST on the newly redesigned and recently launched www.usfreeskiing.com which features state of the art video and photo player technology. The daily uploads of video, photos, news and results of each dayÕs competition action will be available after each day concludes.
