The D component of the MDK Posse has had an awesome season season shredding Whistler, the Interior, Austria and a quick hit to Quebec. With one of the better profile videos you will see anywhere, Dom dropped in to give us the low-down on where he is at these days. Check it out.

So, how has your winter been?

Really good. I started with some early season skiing in the Rockies and Rogers Pass. Did some good ski touring. After that, I flew into Fairy Meadows before Christmas to some of the deepest snow ever. Came back to Whistler to all time conditions. Then Europe. Bought a sled and hit a bunch of good stuff on the Coast with that. Went to Quebec 2 weeks ago, and that was... interesting. It was fun to be back on the East Coast, but hard to find challenging terrain. I’m in Whistler now for the Festival and spring skiing.

What was the Europe trip all about?

Went over there with SBC Skier magazine to shoot a story in Austria skiing from the Gastein Valley all the way to St Anton. We had some great snow in St. Anton. It was good to eat lots of Schnitzel and sausage. Lots of beer too. Apre was gnarly.

Is “gnarly” good?

Oh yeah!

That was your first trip to Europe. What were your impressions compared to Nth America?

It seems like they are one step ahead. Technology seems more advanced. For example, their trains, you can rent DVD's from machines on the streets and things like that. Access to skiing is like nothing here. You can ski from one town to another. Even one country to another. The food was amazing, even in the ski lodges. Here you get burgers etc, There it seems home cooked.

You are also allowed to ski anywhere you want. Only thing was we couldn't ski in some trees in St Anton because of environmental conservation reasons.

Apre is famous in that part of the world. Would you agree?

For sure. It's off the hook. We hit the Funky Chicken in St. Anton which was wild. The Goats Bar in Salbach Hinterglam was a trip. It’s like, there is this plexy glass and you can see the goats inside the barn. You ski by this place a 4pm and there are people dancing on the tables and strobe lights. And all this happens half way up the mountain. That was one of the hardest things about skiing in Europe- trying to ski down shit-faced without dying.

You bought a sled this fall. How was that?

I've been accessing lots of fresh powder. Skiing fresh lines and clean landings. It's cool because you can relax and watch your buddies skiing and not having to stress about others skiing your line.

It's a good exercise in looking at your line and remembering it. The lines are always fresh and you don't ski them everyday like at the hill. Slough management and all those things become a much bigger issue.

How was the sledding side of things?

At first I got stuck a bunch, for sure, but I take it pretty easy and try to stay out of trouble. Sledding is great, but skiing is still the way to go. I wouldn’t call myself a sled neck.

You got any money left?

Sledding is definitely expensive. I went though my budget a lot quicker than I thought.

You have been with Peak for a while now. They treat you pretty well?

Yeah they are awesome. They have really good style and a large variety of gear from skiing to street wear. For example they make outerwear strictly for shredding the hill and then other stuff that is lighter for going for a hike and things like that. Their Merino Wool underwear is amazing.

You signed on with Nordica this season? It seems Nordica are finally making some serious freeride skis.

(Nods.) They came out with the new Blower flat tail. It's definitely more oriented towards the big mountain.

The JahLove is the fattest ski on the market. It’s 140mm underfoot and comes in a 185 and 193. It has zero camber. It’s fat for sure.

Isn't that too big?

Nope. It's perfect for smearing turns and skiing steep pillows. Its great for charging big lines too.

You have stayed injury free this year. It was a tough year for you last year with that.

Yeah, I was unlucky last year with a few injuries that kept me off the mountain. Not just skiing easy, but stuck at home. This year has been full steam ahead.

How are your partners in crime doing these days? Matty Richard and Kris Cormier.

Matty did the new Freeride World Tour and got to check out some new spots like Russia.
Slicer and I went to Quebec with Skier Magazine to check out some strip-joints and jib some houses in the absence of big cliffs. We are still living under the same roof with a few girlfriends and extended family thrown in.

You are back working a little bit. Any big plans for the spring?

Skiing around Whistler. It's (was) so good right now. Starting to mountain bike a little and then put some cash together for next season.

Any funny stories from the winter?

The Fairy Meadows trip was outrageous. 9 guys in a hut for 7 days. Cam Heath and Colin Puskas are animals. That was definitely a highlight. Some of the best pillows ever.

Watching Slicer unwillingly ghost-ride his sled down a 2000ft face through trees and cliffs and finding it at the bottom untouched after dodging trees as if it was being guided by some higher power.

Any shout outs?

Not really. A shout out to Puskas for being the Labenis and giving me a job hanging Christmas lights in the fall.
