THE 2002 ULTRA-CROSS

Developed by GEM in 1997, this event has gained legendary status among old and new school competitors as the ultimate in team competition. With a $30,000 cash purse in 2001, the concept showcases the top skiers and snowboarders in the world as teammates in the most insane skier-cross / boarder-cross ever created.
The snowboarders start first, four at a time, and while they battle each other down the terrain-featured course, the skier gets set in the starting gate. As the snowboarder crosses the finish line; their teammate's gate is released, triggered by a high-tech timing mechanism. The first across the line wins.
Last year, Chris Davenport and Jason Evans took home the Ultra-Cross crown and a check for $10,000. The 2002 Ultra-Cross is scheduled to air as a half-hour special on ESPN2 early next winter.
