About the Scholarship:
BIGLines.com is proud to have founded a scholarship intended to promote and support the freeriding community. BIGLines.com makes the commitment to donate $1000 cash and some sweet gear prizes with the help of Carrera and Helly Hansen to a selected rider or team who deserve a shot at their goal. The fund will be donated to those who are pursuing excellence in their sport, and contributing to their community.
Process:
In order to win the Biglines Freeride Scholarship you or your group must be nominated on the forum. A nomination will be considered valid only if the contact information of the individual is provided: preferably in a Private Message to the user 'Biglines.' The nomination process will be cut off around the end of May. After the nominations are in, Biglines will contact all the nominees to confirm their participation
in the scholarship process. All confirmed nominees will be sent an interview to be filled out, which will be posted on the site: we post them in the order that we receive them. During the posting time of these interviews, Biglines will also post a nominee quick poll on the front page. After all the interviews have been posted, Biglines will pick 5 finalists, who will be required to submit a video entry of themselves or their objectives. The finalists will be picked based on the quality of their interview and their standings in the poll results. The final winner will be decided by a judged panel at the 2003 Mountain Madness party in Calgary, AB, Canada, where the videos are presented.
-The Scholarship is intended to help support 'a selected rider or team who deserve a shot at their goal.' Expeditions, video, film, still projects, and athletes all fit into this categorization. Biglines is founded on the 5 core values of Freedom, Adventure, lifestyle, Travel, and Community; if you've got an objective in snowriding that parallels these values, you qualify for nomination.
As mentioned, the winner of the Scholarship receives 10% of the profits from Biglines.com events, but the value in winning this scholarship involves more than just cash money. There is a lot of media time that comes with the winning of the scholarship. In previous years Ski West, SBC Skier, Ski Press, and Ride Guide (to name a few), all gave mention to the FRS winner. It is also a great platform to access the industry
-To have a serious shot at winning, you must be able to produce a video of yourself or your objective by Oct. 2003. Videos last year ranged from 45 seconds to 10 minutes. The videos are not judged on their editing or quality, but it never hurts to do a good job.
-The winner of the scholarship will be decided in Calgary in November and being in person at the event is a major advantage. The scholarship will accept worldwide nominations, but it's a serious disadvantage if you're not in Calgary, on day of the contest. Last year all 5 of our nominees made it to the event; they came in, on their own dollar, from Ontario, Vancouver, Golden, and Canmore.
Previous Scholarship Winners are:
Kevin Hjertaas
Hunter Corrigal
Ryan Johannesen
