Skate to Hell : The Extreme Skate Rock Collection is a celebration of
skate culture and a chronicle of the music that has underpinned and
inspired it through the years.
The Extreme Sports Channel put all objectiveness aside to cherry pick the
bands that skateboarding wouldn't have been the same without. Their
consequent yelling, sacrifice and bloodshed has resulted in a compilation
of 36 authentically ripping bands, including: Gang Green, CKY, Devo, Fenix
TX, Rancid, The Faction, Black Sabbath, Drunk Injuns, Glassjaw, Simple
Plan, OPM, A, The Stooges, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Public Enemy &
Anthrax, JFA, Millencolin, (hed) PE, Goldfinger, The D4, MC5 and The
Darkness.
Certainly skateboarding is now central to British youth culture, and
despite cobbled streets, turf ridden railway banks and pavements like a
set of badly broken teeth, the UK has managed to produce some of the best
skaters the world has ever seen. Dirty city skies may have been the
backdrop, but skateboarding and rock music have long since been joined at
the hip and the heart. Why? Because each in their own way have epitomised
a style and stance that ensured the mainstream would never offer them the
golden come on. Eighties underground skate videos brought fresh energy to
the union with skaters slamming to crashing guitar breaks and new lines
being formed through the three chord riffs. Nowadays it's passion, honesty
and thundering beats that link those early pioneers with the new bois on
the block.
Skate to Hell : The Extreme Skate Rock Collection is a double CD featuring
bonus footage of Chad Fernandez supplied by Globe, available from all
major record stores.
Extreme Sports Channel Europe launched on May 1st 1999 and is now
broadcasting in over 50 countries and in 8 languages.
