Extreme Sports Channel announces their most exciting on air campaign to date with Legends of the Extreme.
Extreme has commissioned production companies Friday and Chilli Media to produce one-off specials for inclusion in a two-month strand that highlights the 20 greatest extreme sport athletes of all time and asks its audience to decide …
who is the greatest?
Legends of the Extreme will be scheduled in 90-minute slots airing at 12:00, 17:30, and 22:00 every weekday in September and at 12:00, 14:30, 17:30, and 22:00 every Saturday and Sunday in September and October. Each weekday in September will be dedicated to a different athlete. Viewers will be steered through the whole campaign on screen by popular presenting double-act Ed Leigh and Christian Stevenson.
The 20 strong athlete shortlist was compiled by a panel of extreme sports industry experts and includes well known names such as Skateboard maestro Tony Hawk and motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel, as well as moto-x wildman Brian Deegan and surfer queen Lisa Anderson. Viewers can vote for their favourite via the web, sms texting, and snail mail and the channel’s website,
www.extreme.com, will offer additional material on the athletes and a forum (‘take it outside’) for punters to continue the debate.
Managing Director Extreme Sports Channel Europe, Phil Jones, who commissioned the two productions for the strand stated “these athletes are the celebrities of our sports and we have a mission to introduce them to as wide an audience as possible. Extreme sports have their own criteria of success – it’s not just about the silverware, but innovation, guts and attitude to life. This strand shows how those attributes are displayed across the different sports by the best in those sports.”
Friday’s commission, a 30-minute documentary on 5-time world champion snowboarder Terje Haakonsen, was directed by Greg Martin. “This programme is a rare glimpse into the life of a snowboarding icon,” said Martin, “This is an honest, no-hype look into his extraordinary life.”
Extreme have also commissioned Chilli Media to produce a 90-minute Legends countdown show. Executive producer Dan Atkins said, “there are not many programmes that can bring all aspects of this world together and tear them all apart at the same time but this is one of them. It will make great TV.”
Legends of the Extreme creative marketing materials design and implementation have been assigned to award winning design company GP. GP is one of the UK’s leading specialists in entertainment marketing and design and have recently created innovative campaign materials for Terminator 3, The Hulk and Sony Television’s forthcoming Urban Fairytales series.
