How have you dedicated your life to the pursuit of freedom, adventure and lifestyle?
I dedicate every waking moment I have to filmmaking. I spend all winter going around with all of my friends, filming, and skiing. And in the summer I work and go through hours and hours of footage. When I make the final product I like to work with my friends on their sections so they are just as stoked as the audience is to see the finished product. Being the filmmaker I capture the lifestyle on film, and then bring it to the world. The real freedoms come when we duck under the ropes and film pristine lines where few people have skied and bring back the images for everyone to enjoy. I find bringing images to the audience through personal commitment and expense to be rewarding and fulfilling, I love my job. There is a peacefulness and solitude when skiing that can be inspiring if presented the right way by taking the audience on a journey through my eyes and the camera lens capturing the lifestyle, freedom and adventure of some of the aspects of snow riding.
Describe your best trip: past, present (last year), and future (upcoming).
My best trip, was last year, we where at Fernie, and the night before we drove out and it was just raining away, We went to bed with dwindled hopes of a good film sesh the next day. The rain turned to snow, and when we woke up in the morning there was 50cms of fresh and it was snowing so hard you couldn’t see 10 feet in front of you while you were walking. We trudged through the snow and made our way down to the chair, and it was like 8 am, and already people formed a line a mile long, some people started hiking, we waited for a while then started a huge snowball fight. 3 hours pass and they can’t get the lifts going, then as we where walking back to the chalet to dry off, the elk chair started running right as we walked past. We got up to the top of elk, and then made our way over to this other chair and it was still broken, so we hiked. We made it up to the mid mountain lodge and decided going any further with out water or anything was stupid. It is still snowing at this point, as hard then as it was earlier and the turns we did down the green run that we had just hiked up were the best turns of my life! You couldn’t see there was so much snow hitting you in the face. As we where skiing down we stopped and built a kicker, seshed that for a bit and then headed back to the cabin. It continued snowing through the night and into the next day, that was the best trip so far. I am anxiously waiting for my next big adventure.
What are you trying to accomplish with your skiing/snowboarding? How is this
significant to our community?
I am trying to create a presence in the ski industry. One that will be recognized nationally and internationally bringing new talents to the industry and continuing the progression of the sport. It benefits the community by bringing talent from the community and getting their name out, and showing what is happening in the progression outside mainstream events and videos.
Any other comments you’d like to make?
Although there can only be one winner, just being nominated for this award gives me inspiration to keep pursuing my goals. I would just like to thank, all of my friends, without you there would be no video. To my sponsors, Biglines, Victory Records, Urbnet.com, Style-Craft Printing, Elan, Ski Press, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, To my family, with out you I wouldn’t be where I am today. Thanks for nominating me: - )
