AK, LARGER THAN LIFE
Submited By JV Briggs On 2007-12-23
Alaska is every bit as big as you think it should be... Until you get here and it's even bigger than you could ever come to comprehend.

The second you get off the plane, everything is larger than life. From the giant stuffed polar bear in the airport lobby to the huge peaks looming over Downtown Anchorage everything seems larger than life. But, what I really can't get over is the size of the Ravens, I saw one eating something out of a pickup bed and it's head stuck up 6 inches above the side. It must be worrisome for new mothers to constantly have to be on guard of giant black birds snatching babies.

From a photographers stand point, this place is a dream for that perfect golden light. At this time of year the sun only shines for about five hours a day with the sun staying low to the hirozion from about 10 am to 4 pm with the sunsets lasting from 4-6pm it is truely something to behold.

The lack of light really screws with your biological clock, you have the biggest urge to go into hibernation.

As for the mountains the two biggest factors coming into play are finding access to these epicly huge mountains rising out of the sea. A snowmobile is must, wish we had brought them up!

The other factor is waiting for the snow, the place really teaches you patience.... Time for bed, big day tomorrow.
