Broken again

Almost 2 years to the day. Another leg down
The winter appears to be shaping up beautifully and I was really stoked after having some amazing soft snow and powder days on the coast. Photos and stories from the west have been filled with tales of glorious powder.
Here I am kickin it up in bed after compounding the good ol' tib fib in my left leg. I gotta say - its a bummer. On christmas eve, we were up getting some holiday turns on Blackcomb, it was the last run down chainsaw before heading back toVan for the holiday festivities when a death cookie stopped me cold.It was a little bit white out and I hit hard to the sound of snap, crackle, pop. , I hoped that it was my ski, but low and behold, it was my leg. After about a minute of pain - the shock and adrenaline kicked in. I was helped out by a gracious group of skiers who heard my screams from the top - they loosened off the boot and then it was just a quick wait for the patrol and on mountain medi staff who did a bang up job! Lots of thanks and credit to those guys.
From there it was down to Vancouver for surgery where they pinned the tib and grafted together the gaping hole in my leg. Although my femur was a much more painful break from a swelling and general grotesque factor- this one has been a real bitch. I have to keep leggy elevated nearly 24/7, save for the trips to the pisser, for 3 weeks, then it is apparently 3 months without weight bearing, although I'm determined to speed up that process.
I write you this as a reminder to watch out when your shredding the pow and enjoying yourselves, its not a nice situation to be laid up with a broken one yet again . Its also not all that nice to be remanded to bed rest in the hospital and to shit into a bed pan - it may sound glamourous - but trust me, its not.
In the mean time, I'll keep reading your stories, surfing your photos and getting motivated to recover stronger than ever. Have a sick season to all you powderhounds out there!

Dude, that sucks! You don't deserve it but somehow everything happens for a reason. I'm stoked that you got rescued no problem. Compound femurs can be deadly if not attended to immediately.

I had a bummer holiday too, spending a week on my back in bed on pain killers unable to walk when my ass went into spasm after a massage of all things. I can walk again now but need some rehab.

Sending you healing vibes! Kombu seaweed is the highest calcium stuff you can ingest period and doobies are better than beer. Stay away from coffee.

I know you'll be shredding again by spring!

Yikes, what a bummer. Sorry to read you are busted again, especially early season. Better load up on calcium. And drink vast quantities of beer for supplementary pain killing.
