March 7- Touring Pillows
Submited By chump On 2008-03-11
We spent the last 2 days ski touring near the Crowfoot glacier and in the Sunshine Village slackcountry.

It’s been fun even though avi conditions have kept us below treeline. We’ve managed to find some pillow areas to keep occupied on and the snow quality has been really good; a supportive mid-pack with 10-20cm of light fresh snow.

The loose snow sluffs like crazy on the old surface hoar, so you feel like you are on something big in Alaska instead of a 40 foot line in the trees. We can dream.
Mostly, I’ve been trying to get the hang of my new camera. I dropped a bunch of cash on an SLR and need to learn how to take shots on it. I’ve been making everyone I ski with stop and pose and I’ve also been trying some remote triggered self-portraits. It all needs work, though. I pretty much blow every shot right now.

I also tried to go NoBoarding this week too, but couldn’t get everyone together. Hopefully this week. It looks like such a cool sport to try. If a guy could master that, skiing, telemark skiing and mono-skiing, you would be the ultimate mountain man in my books. I guess that will be my goal for the rest of the season. I’ll try to get pics of all of them.

Heading to Louise tomorrow for the Junior Big Mtn contest. I get to coach and few kids and watch all the little grommets put the rest of us to shame.
