It would seem that winter is truly here once she shows her more malevolent side.According to Global BC "The slide happened about 50 kilometers north of Stewart near the B.C.-Alaska border.Two men were working at a remote mine site when the slide hit. One of the men was killed -- while the other was unhurt and managed to pull himself clear."

The big mountain community took a hard hit when it lost Jim Jack in an avalanche last season. As the head judge of The Freeskiing World Tour, his legacy will have a lasting effect on the way skiers tackle gnarly terrain both in and out of competitions. There's sad news today out of Jackson Hole. 2 bodies have been extracted by rescue teams from avalanche debris on Ranger Peak in the Grand Teton National Park.  The dead skiers are reported to be Steve Romeo from the popular blog www.tetonat.com and Chris Onufer. Heading into the winter of 2005-06, CR Johnson was taking the sport of skiing to new levels. With legendary X Games performances, mind blowing film segments, and tons of coverage in every major ski magazine already on his resume, the then 22 year old was on top of the world. All of that changed in an instant when a ski accident left him in a coma faced with a long and difficult road to recovery.

Here's a good little piece on Jamie Pierre by the Bomb Snow crew. --Although Jamie Pierre had just recently moved to Big Sky, the Bomb Snow Team was fortunate enough to spend some quality days on the mountain with him skiing, taking photos and eventually getting to know Jamie as the genuine fun-loving guy he was.

There is terrible news tonight. Pro skier Jamie Pierre is being reported as being killed in an avalanche in an unopened run at Snowbird resort. We can't even express how sad this makes us feel. We loved Jamie. He pushed the sport and all of us at the same time.

There is sad news today in the world of speed flying. Reknowned star Antoine Montant has been found by friends dead in the mountains after he went for a solo wing suit descent. Just Acro reported the news on their website earlier today. Antoine was known for his speed flying descents of the Eiger and for skimming the cable line on a lift in Chamonix. He was 30 years old.

Brent Young was skiing on Monday and fell into an ice cravas, by the time he was rescued and got to a hospital he had passed away from his injuries and hypothermia. He was a great person, he will be sorely missed in his community of Nordeg. Shaka kawn brother keep skiing the waist deep pow in the sky. You will be in our hearts and thoughts forever.

Biglines.com would like to express our sincere condolences to the friends and families of Kip Garre and Allison Kruetzen, who perished on Split Mountain, south of Bishop, California on April 26th. Kip was a renowned ski mountaineer, a guide for Points North Heli Skiing in Alaska and an athlete for K2 and Mountain Hardware. He was based in Lake Tahoe California. Allison Kruetzen was his girlfriend...
